We are saddened to announce Pamela S. Haan, RN, BSN, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, after her long battle with breast cancer.

Pam was a Lansing native, graduating from Waverly High School. She received her Nursing diploma from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and then went on to earn Magna Cum Laude from Mercy College of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then returned to Lansing providing care at Saint Lawrence (UM-Sparrow) Hospital working with adult & pediatric surgical and orthopedic patients, as well as a home care planner.

Pam joined the MSU Department of Surgery in 1989. In her long tenure with the department, she was an originator of the Comprehensive Breast Health Clinic with Dr. Janet Osuch and served in numerous roles such as patient education coordinator, trauma research nurse, breast biopsy database research nurse, research project coordinator/manager and nurse navigator to our Breast Cancer High Risk Assessment clinic, Pink Impact Breast Care Komen program and Breast Cancer Interdisciplinary clinic.

In her role in research, she co-authored 29 publications, and 26 presentations and wrangled countless residents’ research. She was recognized for her work including the 2010 Susan G Komen Outstanding Volunteer of the Year and the 2017 Lansing State Journal Community Service Award.

Pam supported countless patients facing Breast Cancer, drawing from her own experience to guide and comfort others. She was first diagnosed in 2000, and again in 2019, meeting each challenge with strength and grace.

Pam had a special way of comforting others during some of their hardest moments, whether through her work or in her own community. She often made home visits and brought meals, always showing up with kindness.

Due to the recurrence of breast cancer, Pam medically retired after 35 years of service in 2024. Our thoughts are with Pam’s family – her husband Cal, children Andrew (Joey), Emily (Colin), and Michael, and grandchildren Hayden and Kennedy, and her beloved large extended family. Pam was a devoted member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and Capital Area Down Syndrome Association. Pam was a respected colleague and beloved friend, and we will miss her dearly.
